Exam Preparation for A-Levels Students

 

Option 1 – A-Level – English Language

This course will offer a revision of the core topics and follow a paper-based approach to prepare the students for their GCE A/Ls English examination. They will be able to practice past papers & exam model questions on key areas such as grammar and vocabulary, transactional writing & reading comprehension skills.

The students will be following the sections mentioned below so as to have a complete knowledge of the subject & be ready to tackle the examination upon completion of this short course.

 

Option 2 – A-Level – English Literature

Students will be introduced to a critical analysis of literary texts from different genres, as prescribed for GCE A/L English Literature.

Following the basic interpretation of a literary work associating it with the biography of the author and its historical period,  a video-based literature teaching of the work will be carried out so as to do a deeper analysis and a discussion of the literary techniques, themes and significance of certain symbols of the work. This will  turn out to be very helpful as it becomes a lasting memory in the mind of the student. Revision too will be done by using both Past Papers and Model Papers.

  • Grammar and Vocabulary exam style questions. (Fill in the blanks, re-write sentences, etc…)
  • Comprehension Skills (Skimming and Scanning of reading passages, Extracting and Summarising information from media publications, etc…)
  • Writing (Description of technical graphs and diagrams, Creating Magazine Articles, Drafting Notices & Emails, Formal letter writing, Completing dialogues, Advance Essay writing, etc…)
  • During the classroom training sessions, the Tutor may touch on additional specific grammar/vocabulary subjects based on the requirements of the student(s) (i.e. Short Speech Delivery, Advance Listening Comprehension, etc…)
  • Students will be assigned homework for self practice and a personal feedback will be issued to each student based on their performance.
  • Literature is the imagination which pours out of the minds of the writers and poets. It is a discipline closely linked to history, psychology, economic and societal conditions of various periods of the world’s past.
